Missing England

It has almost been a year since we left for England. I had bought my ticket already this time last year.
I had the excitement of counting down the days until the expected time of departure.

A few days ago I was watching a tv show (Miranda). A show we watched in England. while I was watching Miranda I had a flashback of when we were on the train. I had Cadbury chocolate in my hand, and I was looking off in to the distance, I saw green fields with sheep. There were sounds of people talking - I remember two girls talking about what they were going to buy as soon as they got to Bristol. And then the train came to a stuttering stop and I heard the almost mechanic sound of a woman's voice saying Bristol Temple Meads next stop. then I heard mind the gap... mind the gap... and I woke from my daze.
And there I was in the living room; no trains, no british people, and no cadbury chocolate. I was so happy when I was traveling meeting new people. Some mornings we would just walk not really having a destination in mind but we would walk for miles until are hunger would over power are longing to walk so we would stop and get cream tea. One day when we were walking the coast near Penzance are trail led us right to a tea house. literally right to the tea house!

I hope to go back and walk those trails through meadows of sheep someday.

St. Gobnaits journey

Statue of st. Gobnait in Ballvourney.
Young and sad, she takes to the road
when a lady in white tells her a tale.

“On the path you will go,
searching near and far.
searching through the stars.
Once you come upon the nine white deer
that is where you will dwell”.

She stood tall on the path traveling through the mists of her future - the honey bees by her side protecting the way.

Dingle Peninsula, Ireland
Someone built this house, someone lost this house.
The stones remember - a lover, a family, a friend.
Their future is our life, their past will never be seen
but in these stones which hold their lives together and hold their stories still.

back home

Hello,
I suppose you have guessed I'm back in America. I sadly didn't take off to the fields to travel across the distant countries forever. We got back June 6th. I returned to the humdrum of life pretty quickly (maybe too quickly for my liking). I believe I could have traveled for months longer. Now that 3 months have passed, all of my good memories of England, Ireland and Wales seem very unreal. I'm going to post a picture with a poem to express my liking of each place we went.
Sincerely,
    Elizabeth

A magnificent day in Bath!

Bishops palace at the wells cathedral
The Roman baths

May 19th  was a great and wondrous day. For two reasons: (1) We went to Bath. (2) It was my 15th birthday. Bath was a beautiful city. You could feel the vibration of history coursing through the walls. We went to the Fashion Museum first and then Jane Austen Centre. My friend (Gypsy) and I are both interested in fashion through the ages. It's amazing how much you can find out about times by looking at fashion. At the Fashion Museum they let us try on Victorian outfits. Also at the Jane Austen Centre we got to try on Regency outfits. After, for my birthday we went to the Jane Austen tea room. We got cream tea! Oh cream tea how I will miss you when I get back to the states, the way the clotted cream goes so well with the lovely scone.
We took a pleasant stroll through the Roman baths. You could imagine all the people through the years coming to the warm baths. It's amazing how long it's been here and how many people have seen the same things we are seeing today.
On the way back from Bath we stopped in Wells so I have a few pictures of the beautiful cathedral. The cathedral that we see today was built in 1175. Also part of the cathedral was used in the Harry Potter movies!

A fine day!

Yesterday was a very fine day, so we decided to find Gog and Magog(which is rather hard). We went through meadows, jumped over stiles, and risked our lives trying not to be chased by angry sheep, until we finally stumbled upon the great and wondrous oak trees(2 thousand years old). Later we went to the Tor and Glastonbury Abbey.

Glastonbury adventures!

Tuesday 5/14/13
Off the plane finally!
Then a train to Paddington Station where we then, got on a train to Bristol.
I am writing this on the train to Bristol. There was a lot of firsts today. First time going on a plane overseas, first stamp in my passport and my first train ride. Oh wonders! We are getting to the rolling fields. Wow! I must stop and admire this for a second. I saw a beautiful field full of yellow flowers, it seemed like they'd soaked up all the sun. They were so vibrant.

Wednesday 5/15/13
I'll try to recapture
the events of yesterday and today.

After we finally arrived to Glastonbury, we found our way to the place we're staying - the Pilgrims B&B. It's a very lovely place. We got the top floor. The room is light purple with yellow curtains. You can see the Tor from the window on a sunny day. Wednesday, we had a full breakfast, which comprised of sunny side eggs, baked beans, toast, bacon, mushrooms and tomato - yum! It was very filling. After, we went to the Tor where we almost blew away, The wind was amazingly strong. Then onward to the Chalice Well where we dipped our feet into the chilling water. Glastonbury Abbey is where we went next. We walked the edge of the abbey until we found ourselves in a little apple orchard. In the middle of the orchard was a woman made out of woven branches. People had adorned her with ribbons and flowers. Some even put bracelets and necklaces on her. The Abbey was extraordinary, so much history, so many people have walked the grounds. King Arthur and Queen Guinevere are believed to have been buried there.
One thing that I found extremely amazing was that during the Dissolution of the Monasteries almost all the buildings were taken down but Saint Mary's chapel - also know as Saint Joseph's chapel. It's a mystery why they felt like they should leave it. Later we went for a walk around town and followed our noses to a delicious smelling fish and chips place - Knights Fish and Chips Restaurant. It was a very yummy experience!
